concept sketches
I first thought about different products and how their shapes, colors, and textures could inform the design of the package. The shape of 35mm film canisters made me think of rounded objects, which lead to the idea of applying an illustration of lips on the canister to create a 3D effect.

First mockup draft. The loops held the film well, but it could be improved.

Refinement sketch based on the results of the first mockup.

FIRST TRIAL
The first physical mockup was a success. The film canisters can be secured inside the paper loops that have an illustration of a mouth on them and could be pushed out of one side when ready to use. However, I felt that I needed to create a system that could keep the film from sliding out accidentally.
CONCEPT REFINEMENTS
I came up with a system that I felt would offer the easiest opening experience. Additionally, I had the idea of re-purposing the packaging into a photo stand to add value to the unboxing experience.
